We usually get together with my sister for the holidays but as she isn't speaking to us that's a no go. I think I will just get a few things, ham, stuffing, pumpkin pie and have a low key holiday for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I would take mom on a trip somewhere but I am planning a trip to Florida next spring that we should both enjoy so I think we will stay home for the holidays.
This will be the first time it's just me and my mom for Thanksgiving but I think it could be nice. I am starting to get to the point where I am ok without being around other family members. I never realized how much anxiety i'd go through whenever my mom and sister were together. They would make little snide remarks to each other most of the time and be on the edge of fighting. It seems like is the year for seeking peace and rest so a quiet holiday should fit the bill.
Previously , a daughter & myself would also go participate in the Turkey Trot race , but this year, choose to do our own pre-dinner "work-out" and socializing , walking or bike-riding at our local trails, and exchanging greetings with those passing by and who are also making a good walk or bike ride a priority before the Big Feast!
For decades we've "had to make our Own " Holiday, and the big gathering round the table is a thing of the past. Of course-the More the Merrier-but really only if we are all still compatible., and long distance separates us . We enjoy the Peace, the Quiet, the Feast ,and keeping it Simple over cooking and dishes. Families under pressure to host a Big Dinner have actually ended up envying how Easy our plan is every year , particularly over the Clean Up! We still look forward to it all very much !
Since my oldest is an RN we do Lasagna. She usually worked Christmas for those who had children. Never sure if she would get home on time. Lasagna can be kept warm.
