While doing some online and telephone research yesterday for an acceptable facility, for when the time arrives, one facility had a comparison test. It is a chart to post the cost of remaining in your home, as opposed to using assisted living. After printing the page, I noticed that the facility did not provide a cost with which to compare costs. A telephone call answered that question. When I spoke to a person at the facility and said I was looking for memory care, they provided me with their entry level cost for that service: $11,500 per month, which included 20 hours a week of personal care. Is that the normal starting cost for memory care, or is this facility just over charging? As noted, this is for planning purposes only, not going to make any moves in the immediate future, hopefully.

Find Care & Housing
I'd say it depends on where you live, but I think that 's a little steep, especially with the "20 hours of personal care" part. What does that mean?

I'm in Southern California where everything's crazy-expensive, and my mom's MC was $8950/month when she died nearly two years ago. That included the highest level of care (incontinence care at $500/month), but there were no hours of service listed in the contract. It's 24/7 care because the residents live there.

I used A Place for Mom when I was seaiching for MC, and this was by far the best place both in price and quality of care. The two large corporation-type places I went to were terrible -- overpriced, and they parked the residents in front of the TV all day. The place where I put Mom only turned on the TV for 30 minutes after dinner when they'd show an old movie on DVD. They had no cable. Instead, they had activities all day.

In the greater Denver metro area, mom was paying $6500 a month (in 2021/2022) for memory care AL which included unlimited caregiver assistance 24/7. Meds, incontinence briefs, and toiletries were not inclded but everything else was covered.

I have no idea where you live but that price w only 20 hrs of personal care sounds outrageous. Why not scroll to the right here on AC and ask for rates in your area from A Place For Mom?
