The nursing home is demanding that I bring in the cash amount of her social security check for that month on the first day of the month even though direct funds go to the nursing home the following month. Is that legal? Do I have any other options? I am her POA. She has no assets other than social security and home that I must liquidate.

Yes, this is very common, the bottom line, they are running a business. They are attending to her needs right now. I would sit down with the accounting manager and see if anything can be worked out.

When was mom admitted to LTC care and how is the facility being paid?

Is she in "Medicaid pending" status?

Mom's SS is her "share of cost" for NH fees, minus her personal needs allowance ( this is if she is on Medicaid).

Have you sat down with the business manager to work this out?
