I'm still trying to decide what to do with these packets because I KNOW they can be used 'somewhere', and I'm NOT looking to sell them especially since I know there are elderly people out there with eating problems who could benefit from them. So, does anyone know or have a suggestion, as to whom I can contact for help? Thanks.

I could probably find a home for them via the Children's Hospital where I work here in Little Rock, but I bet if you find any adult skilled nursing facility or rehab hosptial with a speech therapy dept. they can use them as samples for some elderly folks.

pstegman was thinking a food pantry could give them away in case someone was having to buy thier own thickener. here in Arkansas they have an outfit called ICAN that might also accept donated things related to any disability. Worst come to worst give them to Goodwill, or mail them to Dr. Vikki Stefans at the Arkansas Chidren's Hospital address and between me and the dysphagia therapists we will make sure they get used.

I will confess, I use thick n easy for cooking. It's a great thickener for gravies and sauces. Perfect for smoothies, and making sugar-free jam. Even a watery salsa will smooth out with a spoonful of thick n easy.

psteqman, how can the food pantry help??

vstefans, I didn't think about a Children's Hospital, there's a few here in New York City that I can try, will get back to you to let you know what happens. As for the nursing facilities or rehab hospitals, they won't take them (even if they're not open) because they mentioned something about there could still be a problem distributing them, even if they're not opened (didn't make any sense to me because there are folks who have eating problems, and these packets can really help them out. I don't want to throw them away, which I was told to do because they're 'expensive', but besides that there has to be somewhere 'legitimate' where they can be given out to help?).
I'll check a few more places this coming week, but if you come up with anything on your end, could you let me know? Thanks for your input. Take care.

Most of the thickeners I have used in hospitals and nursing facilities are a corn starch base. Any of the group homes for the elderly, or sitter services would probably love to have some extras. And as psteqman suggested, if they are getting a bit old, just use them for thickening your own gravy or puddings, etc... Bless you for thinking of others. You have a kind heart. I am sorry for your loss, you are a sweet child. God bless you
