r. My moms carbon dioxides levels were very high and they think she might have taken a double dose of valum and sleeping meds and went to the hospital, and is on a ventilator. They lower her sedation every morning and try to get her to blink, stick her tongue out, and squueeze her hand and when they cant they resedate her and try again the next day. She has lung issues. But has always been fine. They need to unsedate her and take her off the vent and let her body wake up but they wont take her off bc of the carbon dioxide level. Anyone know what is wrong? Drs are playing guessing games its awful. My mom cries and open her eyes at me. She is miserable and cant communicate but i know she is there. It is breaking my heart. Any advice would help.

Dora, it's wonderful that your mom is back to normal!

Will they be sending her to rehab for a bit? It sounds as though she shouldn't be alone ( if you think she may have taken too much valium). This would be a great opportunity to get her meds straightened out, get her some physical therapy and perhaps speech therapy, and have professional staff who can assess in real time what her day to day needs are.

If mom is on Medicare and and was in the hospital forv3 days, 20 days of rehab is paid for in full by Medicare.

If you could copy and paste your replies on this post this is the only one I can figure out how to find. Just so everyone knows they were asking her commands to follow and every morning and they would lower her sedation she was on sedation and antibiotics and just feeding tube medications fluids normal stuff like that and she wasn't responding but I went in on Friday morning early and she still has a ventilator in and they said that she answered 4 out of the 5 commands so I then demanded to attend the doctor's meeting regarding my mother and when I was attending that meeting I asked them the probability of the ventilator coming out since she was able to breathe on her own and her levels and her lungs are back to normal and they said 90% so they ended up taking the ventilator out she woke up she was talking normal she sounded like she had laryngitis because of having the tube down her throat but she's doing really well now and just a day's time she's talking normally she's off all Ivs she's off all oxygen now , no ventilator , no capheter n is eating on her own. doctors are baffled and have no idea why she wouldn't wake up for a week and what happened .doctor's have been traveling to the hospital to try to figure it out for patients in the future but it's a miracle is what happened I've been praying for healing but doctors have no idea what caused her to wake up what caused her to stay asleep so long or what was causing the levels in her lungs to be full of carbon dioxide but I'm just coming to the conclusion its a miracle

Great news, so happy for you! I agree, rehabilitation might be a good idea to get her some additional therapy, and her meds sorted out under observation!

Its a miracle and she is home now. I have to sit with her all day bc she is a fall risk. Her meds are being monitored and given 1 by 1 by her husband.
