My mother is in assisted living, now on hospice. We are not happy with the current hospice company at all and are looking at changing this week if possible.
My mother is in need of a hospital bed; the one that she has had for years (an adjustable) is broken. We were going to get one through the current hospice provider. If we change companies, though, do they have to return the bed and get another one from the new company?
what works better is addressing your concerns with your mothers primary care doctor . he or she usually wont hesitate to fire the hospice providers up , to include simple attitude adjustments .
I would first want to know why you want to change. I think some people don't understand how it works. You r lucky Mom is in an AL. If she was receiving baths and help with dressing and toileting these services should continue when the Hospice aide and Nurse are not available. If the AL distributed her meds they still can thru the Hospice doctor.
Hospice is there to keep Mom comfortable. Yes, certain meds will be discontinued. She will be given Morphine for pain and trouble breathing. To keep her comfortable and pain free she maybe out of it. An aide will come about 3x a week to bath her. A Nurse about 3x a wk to check on her. You should be able to call a Nurse 24/7. There should be someone to talk to about Moms passing.
Now for your question. Each Hospice contracts thru a durable equipment provider. So, when one service leaves their provider will pick up the equipment. The New Hospices provider will bring another.
