Hospice comes out twice a week to give her bed baths. My mother is blind, hard of hearing and unable to walk. The nurse does not seem to show much caring or compassion. Can I request a different nurse? She goes to another facility and doesn't seem to spend any time with my mother.

Absolutely ask for a different aide. Hospice is ALL about your mom's comfort, and if they aren't providing it, feel free to fire the entire company and hire another one.

I did exactly that with the first hospice company I hired for my dad. We had them for about two weeks, and I got fed up with their lack of compassion and poor response times to my questions. I hired another company, and they contacted the first one, coordinated the transfer of all the medical equipment so we were inconvenienced as little as possible, and we were set. I couldn't have asked for a better experience after having started out with such a poor one.

Yes you certainly can, and like the previous poster said, you can get a different hospice agency if you need to also. My husband was under in home hospice care for 22 months and early on I requested a different nurse come as the first one, barely spoke to us, and really didn't seem to know what she was doing.(she was beyond retirement age and needed to do just that). I also over the months had to request that certain aides didn't return to our home either as they were either rude or to rough with my husband.

You have to remember that you are now your moms advocate and you must insist that she gets the care and treatment that she deserves at this time in her journey. God bless you and keep you.

Yes you can and you can fire the hospice and hire another one if they don't send a different nurse, or for any reason at all.

Oh, please do request a different nurse if you aren't happy with this one. My experience with the hospice nurse for my mother was beyond horrible and made her death so much harder. Other people have had very different hospice experiences than I had and you deserve to feel supported and comforted during this time. And is "isthisrealyreal" said, you may also be able to get a different hospice provider if this one isn't accommodating.

The person who is bathing her is not a Nurse. This person has no medical training. She is probably a CNA, Certified Nurses Aid.

Yes, you can request someone else.

Please, don't consider an aide a nurse. Not saying they don't learn from experience but they are not trained nurses. They take an 8 to10 week course to learn how to bath a patient. Transport them easily, turn them, change them ect. They have no medical background. They cannot do pill planners or distribute pills.

There are LPNs that get Medical training, RNs there are associates degrees and BS degrees, and higher degrees like NPs.

Speak with your hospice. Find out how much time each nurse is allowed at a facility, home. Most "nurses" show up only as pertains to evaluating care, patient condition, medication. Aids generally do bathing and etc.
You are not specific in your feelings or the nurse's actions. But certainly do feel free to call hospice and speak with them about your feelings, and see if you can arrange for other coverage; do have specific things to tell them.

If you feel like the care isn’t sufficient ask for a replacement. Even switch hospice companies if you like.

Not all hospice organizations are the same. I have known people that switched. Best wishes to you and your family.
