My father is a veteran age 91. I applied for aid and attendance for us and I don't believe that i did everything correctly. Would someone please explain to me what the exact steps to this include. If I recall I was told that I have to apply for a pension at the same time or before applying for aid and attendance. I am retired from the Department of Homeland Security and his caregiver, I am familiar with government forms. The VA website can be quite daunting, and I need a guide to light the way for me. There are all of these programs out there, and all of this help available, although getting there is quite the task. Thank you in advance for any guidance,

Your County should have a VA department. Make an appt with them. Do not pay someone.

Aid and Attendance is considered a pension for those who need money for their care. The only vets who get pensions other than A&A are those who have served for at least 20 yrs. Your Dad had to serve during Wartime so the Korean war? Maybe Viet Nam?

I took everything I could find to my appt. TG Dad kept all his papers in the envelope that was given him. You must have the typewritten discharge not the pretty one that gets framed. There is an income limit.

Contact your local Veterans Assistance Commission or your State's Department of Veteran's Affairs.
Sometimes you can find someone at your local VFW that can help you as well.

I paid someone to help with the application. Expensive but well worth it in the end. Someone from the VA came out and met with my father and I before finally approved. After approval I had to set up a separate account and act as fiduciary. Once he died I had to file a final report with them. I think they make the process over complicated so you need professional help to complete which just takes more money away from the applicant
