Is there any know medication to help those with dementia who experience sun downing? My mom is 88 years-old and in January she began getting up each night. This occurred after a slight stoke. She get up anywhere between 2 to 7 times each night. She is on medication but it does not seem to help. My wife and I take turns each night sleeping near my mom's bedroom, so we can get to her before she goes very far. We are so afraid that she is going to fall and break a bone. We are seeking any help from professional and others who have dealt with sun downing.

what is she doing when she gets up. Although you will be more tired than you are, you should try to watch and see what she does a few nights - it will help the dr. if you consult with him/her and it may help you come up with some ideas of how to curb the behavior.

Assume you ruled out bathroom trips and UTI - frequent urges.
