Our aging mother denies she has dementia but it's very obvious to absolutely everyone else. She actually signed the contract for AL and then canceled the contract the next day (she said we tricked her into it...but at the time due to a medical emergency with my husband we really needed her to go in temporarily at least). This is the second time she has verbally canceled the contracts for an apartment. Social Services has said the only option would be a guardianship. What's your thoughts out there?
I'm so sorry I know its a difficult to know what to do sometimes with an elderly parent. I think it would be best to follow the social worker's advice and seek guardianship. I know its hard to see our parents going through this stage of life, but you must take control and ensure she is safe and well take care of. I, too, wanted to do what my father wanted till the end but it was a mistake. A mistake I believed caused his death.
