My mom has partial top and bottom. No bone especially in top so her teeth are loose. She has only 1 tooth top & bottom holding partial. Bottom one is loose and rotting cause she won’t brush them, but claims she does. Top one broke off. She flat refuses to use any adhesive! I put it on she yanks them out and washes it off. So now she can’t eat and she is constantly chewing her teeth which drives me up a wall! She’s been doing it with bottom teeth all along. How do I get her to use the adhesive? Is any kind better than another?

Countrymouse she has no bone structure in her gums. Bottom is completely flat so no way the dentures will ever stay in place without adhesive. So still need help as to how to convince her to use the adhesive.

Hi My mother has full dentures, except for one bottom tooth that was supposed to hold the bottom dentures in place. it was very loose and didn't work. I called a denturist to visit her in the NH, and she (denturist) relined mother's dentures. It wasn't cheap but they fit now and should be good for a few years.

I sympathise. My mother had a partial upper denture and, I don't know why, cleaning it was one of the caregiving jobs I continued to find mildly disgusting. You'd have thought there'd have been plenty of worse candidates! So the thought of your mother sitting there and chomping away merrily... oh boy. I hear you.

The thing is. If a denture fits properly it shouldn't need adhesive; therefore if it does need it, it's not the right fit. And if these partials have nothing secure to hold on to...

How do you feel about attempting to get her to a dentist? For a complete (and yikes expensive) overhaul?
