Any advice or insight? My 84 y.o. mom has rheumatoid arthritis and hip/back pain. We’re managing it but she’s now getting symptoms of foot drop: right ankle/foot is numb or tingling, can’t much move her toes, and difficulty lifting her foot while walking. We’ve been to her rheumatologist and spine doc, but they only suggest a cortisone or pain shot. Can anything else be done? I’m hoping for suggestions for therapy, if only to prevent it from getting worse.
I would as others have suggested explore the use of a foot brace, which I believe would be covered under Medicare. But make sure that it's fitted properly and your husband can walk with it.
My sympathy and support go out to you, your husband, and everyone else who's dealt with this.
Take her to an orthopedist for evaluation.
