Sorry to say, but this site has been so depressing for a few days. I thought I'd ask an average, everyday question....to make us all feel a little more normal today.

I made Eggplant Lasagna, and my BIL and SIL are coming for dinner. They leave for Cali tomorrow to see their beautiful grand daughter.

Sorry, sometimes we just need some REGULAR conversation.......or at least THIS caregiver does.

Pam, what’s a rivel? Is it game night?
Sam, wings sound yum. Double yum if crispy on the grill!

Tonight, quesadillas on the old George Foreman. Easy to make; a pain to clean up.

I am my wife's caregiver and last night I grilled chicken wings and served with a bag caesar salad that she absolutely loved. I like to season the wings with seasoned salt, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and paprika. Then I grill until they are mostly crispy, turn the heat down a little, and baste with barbecue sauce. I let the sauce cook on, baste again, turn them over and do the same on the other side. The sauce is then kind of caramelized and sticky, the wings are outstanding. Easy meal (for me) for around $10.

Yum, I cannot wait to try KFC.

Yeah, but they don't have it here in my area.

KFC here has been advertising a festive chicken, stuffing and cranberry sandwich and when I checked online it has good reviews, it's on my list of junk foods I must try (lol)

Ooh, Nacy, I agree. My DD puts her leftover stuffing in her waffle iron and makes turkey, cranberry sandwiches with the waffles. Too good!

Tomorrow I'm FINALLY cooking my own Thanksgiving dinner, they way I like it. 😂

I'm oddly excited about , finally having it the way I want. Lots and lots of little issues this week. Been one of those weeks that everything goes wrong. Nothing drastic just stuff. Snow, 2 of my sons have had car issues, mom is having hot water issues, and a sick tortoise

Had Thanksgiving at my daughter and son-in-law's place, with two grand daughters and son-in-law's parents. I was on turkey, gravy, and stuffing duty; daughter is vegetarian so I spared her from having to handle the bird! Thirteen-year old grand-daughter was a big help. Had a very traditional New England menu: turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, squash, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, pies (pumpkin, apple, pecan, and, new this year, sweet potato). Came home with lots of leftovers, including the turkey carcass that I'll make into soup stock. My late husband loved soup of almost any kind, but for some reason turned his nose up at turkey soup, though he loved turkey and loved Thanksgiving. It was his favorite holiday, and we really miss him on that day; he passed away in June, 2022 so this was our third Thanksgiving without him. Friday I went to a family member's belated birthday dinner and had lobster! Tonight: Thanksgiving #2 (leftovers)

Golden , I love that!! 😍 Everyday is a holiday.

When someone ask my husband what day it is, he says everyday is a Saturday.

Hubby only micro managed when the weather gets colder and he is board and inside more. He knows better now, but every once in a while it still have to , put my foot down, a a boot in the behind. 😂, or tell him he is cooking all week. 😂

Wow. Pam! Do you hire him out?

Leftovers tonight for us too. We came home with way more than we brought! Tomorrow is our quasi-Thanksgiving so I did as much prep for that as I could - splitting butternut squash, trimming sprouts, cooking up onions, celery and herbs and browning ground turkey and sausage for the stuffing. Smells good in here!

Golden, I don’t think I could handle that cold for very long - I know DH couldn’t. He’s standing in front of the gas fire with his coat on right now while I can feel my cheeks burning.

PamZ - Well done for your hubby. Glad it all is working out. As it's well below freezing here now (5F) I am using the balcony as a freezer.

Leftovers! fridge is working, hubs replaced a part and cleaned all the coils, etc. So some stuff is back in and I will get the rest tomorrow ( supposed to be 25 tonight so the stuff in the coolers will hold nicely,, LOL. Good way to get the fridge cleaned out

Way - I guess not! You still have a decent number. Very kind of you to include the older couple next door.

Psue - thank you but they really weren't inspired. I remember cooking things in a made-for-the-oven "plastic" bag, Wasn't worth it! Sorry to hear your dh had a heart attack one year.

Rotisserie chicken for supper tonight. The groceries just came. I love not having to go out in the snowy cold and ice.

R is getting his permanent crowns at the dentist today. Good thing too as one came out last night. He did have one replacement prepped last time and 4 were preps for new crowns. He handles this stuff very well.

Golden, I think I would enjoy an all veggie sides Thanksgiving if you were cooking it!

Remember that bizarre trend of roasting the turkey inside of a brown paper bag? Talk about a fire hazard!
I wonder the percentage of people who have NOT had some kind of holiday disaster - clogged drain, dead fridge, power outage, frozen pipes…..DH had a heart attack one year!
I’m thankful we made it through Thanksgiving with nothing bad (and very much good) happening.

Way, BIL said turkeys over 16 lbs are all Toms so more likely to be tough. Could be true or could be man-talk! All I know is the one he smoked was tender, juicy and delicious so he’s allowed to man-talk all he wants when he can cook like that!

Golden ,

I don’t do 20 lb turkeys anymore , not since my parents passed away . Older sibs moved , are spread out too since retiring .

Pam, that really does sound great- except for the fridge part. Such horrible timing, but isn’t it always? I suppose if it had been the oven it would have been worse. Wonderful that you have a husband with skills!

Nacy, so your late Thanksgiving tomorrow is going to be Christmas themed? And you have SNOW! Yay! (I mean boo.)

We had the traditional meal, with one exception of no pumpkin pie as the friend who was bringing that woke up sick this morning. And we survived! Still plenty to eat and everyone had a good time. And after everyone left we discovered our fridge was crapping out! At least it held on until AFTER the meal! and it's cold enough here that we could pack up alot, went into the beer fridge, cooler and our unheated sunroom. Hubs will fix it tomorrow once he can get the part. we had our DD ( baby went with dad to his family for the day and overnight) and we have 2 friends and a friend of DD and her son. So it was low key and lovely.

Traveling to DH’s sister’s for the full meal deal. She and husband are fabulous cooks so it should be traditional and scrumptious. DH was up and down all night in anticipation which means I was up and down too - I will probably ask to borrow cucumber slices from the relish dish for my puffy eyes.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I don't eat turkey so it's a porterhouse steak for me with all the side dishes.

I'm not cooking. I'm not cleaning. My sister has everyone over and does the whole thing. I have the whole day off and life is good.

We do have to bring my mother so we'll see how that goes.
