A GE 51207 motion sensor alarm has been invaluable. My patient arises slowly, and the 30-second delay after motion detection has so far been tolerable. Some delay is desirable, but 10-second would be safer. Devices that give alarm after the patient exits the bed are of dubious valuable. They don’t protect against falls when getting out of bed. The system value was greatly improved when my son set up the GE motion sensor in conjunction with a wireless, Sony baby alarm. The beeper in the patient’s room was quieted but then amplified by two remote Sony receivers elsewhere in the house. This simple system has tremendous value. Operational for only a few days it has already prevented several falls and given me peace of mind. I’ve purchased a backup unit just in case the electronics should fail. I have no financial interest in these gadgets, but I am delighted with what they do.
